The Pastor and Education

When I was in bible school I had a homiletics (preaching) professor who would always say, "We need more phds in the pulpit." This is a great point, but I know many would disagree. The point is: having more educated men in the pulpit would not hurt anything, especially not the churches in which they serve. People need to built up and will only go as far as their leaders have gone. If you are a pastor who feels no need to continually be learning if will reflect on those you lead. There are a lot of pastors out there who rely strictly on their entertainment value. This is great- people will laugh and have a great time listening, but will remain in the same spiritual condition their whole lives, which is sad.

Dr. Albert Mohler (Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) makes a great point in his article entitled, Training Pastors in Church
