The Naked Gospel: A Review

While recently traveling I started to read Andrew Farley's new book The Naked Gospel. I read a lot and to be honest I loved this book! There is certainly no shortage of books on the Gospel, but this text offered a scholarly and bluntly honest look at the Gospel. It is a quick read, but also challenged me and what I believe to be the status quo thoughts on the Gospel. Farley's treatment of Law v. Gospel is very well though out and written in a way that is understandable. He writes on tithing and sabbath from a New Testament point of view which was also very interesting- especially in a day and age where most people have tithing completely wrong. One part that stood out to me more than others was when Farley wrote on how as Christians we tend to focus and almost obsess on our failures (sins). We makes some observations on Romans 7 and than makes an very interesting point about our sins. If we are truly in Christ and trust by faith that on the cross Jesus Christ died and paid for sins (past, present, future) that God remembers our sins no more. Farley writes, "Are you consumed with your sins when God says he remembers them no more? Are you willing to to agree that the focus is no longer on your failures? Will you please the Father through obsession with the Son?" I had to sit and thing about that for awhile- it's an easy thought to read, but a very hard one to live out.
